12 STEPS BOOST QUALITY YEARS

The New Year inspires us to reflect and make positive changes in our lives, here’s a list to help you start 2018 off right!

1. Tame the tension

Relaxation is underrated! Start practising yoga, stability & mobility classes such as Tai Chi or meditation to reduce the impact of chronic stress (emotional and physical) on your health and well-being.

2. Step it up

Grab your snowshoes, take a dance fitness class or walk the treadmill! Increasing the steps you take each day can help stave off illness.

3. Get enough shut-eye

Clocking enough hours of sleep can add years to your life and allow your body to repair and rejuvenate – on-going sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and stroke.

4. Donate your time

According to research, volunteering and doing for others even one hour per week, be it delivering meals-on-wheels, facilitating a group or lending a helping hand can add 4-7+ years to your life.

5. Get out and socialize

Building strong connections with friends, family and community can yield many health benefits. Taking part in our Performing Arts classes (band, choir, theatre, etc) is a great way to start!

6. Think positive

Tapping into your inner optimist could add years to your life by lowering risk of depression and improving psychological and physical health.

7. Keep a youthful mindset

Improves optimism and motivation to overcome challenges and ultimately reduce stress and boost the immune system; you are never too old to try something new!

8. Stay on track

People who stick to regular routines such as wake-up times, classes, exercises, bedtimes can help improve sleep and overall health; the Workout Studio is open early to start your day off right.

9. Take on challenges

Learning something new and using your brainpower help you live longer and can help lower your risk of developing Alzheimer’s.

10. Embrace Social media

Staying connected with friends, family and current events can keep you engaged and brain cells young and healthy; look into our Virtual Learning Program or Tips & Tricks computer class.
