When used intentionally, music can have profound impacts on our physical and mental health. Live music can help us connect to our communities, ourselves, our environments, and our emotions. This hour-long program will begin with a guided relaxation exercise, led by music therapist Victoria McNeill, followed by a live performance from pianist James Hurley. Intended to help reduce tension and promote relaxation, Music for Your Mind will provide an opportunity for you to tend to your emotional well-being and reset. Join us for an hour of live music, with pianist James Hurley and a guided relaxation exercise with music therapist Victoria McNeill. This program may not suitable for people with a cognitive impairment.
Victoria McNeill (MMus, MTA) has been working as an accredited music therapist since 2014. Victoria began her professional career providing music therapy services as part of The Cummings Centre's many memory care groups. Since that time, the services at the Cummings Centre have grown to include a broad range of programs in the social services department as well as a range of therapeutic and educational music programs. In addition to her music therapy work, Victoria is also an accomplished classical musician, with degrees in classical French horn performance from Memorial University and McGill University. During her time as a music therapist, Victoria has worked with individuals aged 2 to 102 and has served individuals with a wide array of abilities.
James Hurley is a classical pianist with a passion for improvisation. James earned an undergraduate degree in piano performance from Memorial University of Newfoundland before heading to Boston, where he completed his Masters at the New England Conservatory. In 2011, James followed a lifelong dream and moved to Germany where he and his wife opened Più Piano - a live performance venue and piano school, located in Neuburg an der Donau. He has released many recordings which capture his improvisational style, which centres around identity, honesty, and love. In 2017, he released a solo piano CD entitle Nightscapes, and has since released of 4.5 hours of music which can be found on all major streaming platforms.

Should a participant withdraw more than 5 business days prior to the start date, one of the following will apply:
a)Credit Notes: A full credit note will be applied to be used against a future purchase at the Cummings Centre; or b)Refunds: A $10 administrative fee will be withheld, and refunds will automatically be applied against the credit card purchase. Only when payment was made by cash, cheque, or debit card will a refund be issued by form of cheque.
