Warm up this fall with Cummings Free Trial Fitness Classes. To expand our offering of exercise classes on Zoom, the Cummings Centre, has developed a mix of new and exciting classes for you to try during FREE TRIAL weeks October 19 through October 30th. This is a great opportunity to meet the Wellness Centre team and try something new!

ADAPTED EXERCISE FOR FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT

Oct. 19, 21, 26, 28 • 11:30 am – 12:00 pm • with Anne Newman

Do you have difficulty walking and maintaining your balance? Do you rely on a walker in your home or a wheelchair for longer distances? Then join Anne for this 30 minute functional movement class that focuses on slow and controlled weight-bearing and leg strengthening exercises. Caregivers are encouraged to participate but not required.

POST-STROKE: ARM RETRAINING

Mondays Oct. 19, 26 • 1:00 – 2:00 pm • with Trang Le

This class will focus on mindful exercises that will stimulate and strengthen arms & hands that are weakened due to stroke. Household items will be used for equipment.

YOGA WITH A CHAIR

Yoga creates strength, awareness and harmony in the mind, body and soul.  Practice seated and standing yoga moves, using a chair for better stability; learn basic breathing and relaxation techniques, while you improve your flexibility through full body stretches. No Mat work.

This intermediate class will focus on improving strength, mobility and flexibility through various upper and lower body exercises using hand weights and your own body weight. No mat work is involved.

BOXING INTERVAL CLASS

Thursdays Oct. 22, 29 • 1:30 – 2:30 pm • with Anne Newman

Exercise your cardio, coordination & strength with a series of 3 minute “rounds” of brain building boxing sequences, and lower body strengthening exercises.  All that you need is some space, a water bottle and a chair. If standing for too long is an issue, you can also choose to do all the exercises seated. Boxing gloves are not required!

MOVE YOUR PELVIS: REDUCE INCONTINENCE (IN FRENCH ONLY)

The weakening of our pelvic floor can cause problems such as incontinence. Maria will help us to strengthen those muscles through exercises which can be easily incorporated into our daily lives.
