“A GEM OF AN INSTITUTION”

Janie Etinson is a long-time Golda Meir Governor and former committee chair, pictured here with her mother, Lil Margolis. Now 94, Lil has been a frequent face at the Cummings Centre, taking classes in music, crafts, stained glass, and current events – and has continued to participate on zoom over the past year.

“I’m very close to mom and we speak several times a day,” says Janie, “Really, I had the happiest of childhoods … I grew up living with both grandparents at home as well – it was like having two mothers, both were so caring of me and my sisters. I always saw my parents treat my grandparents with the greatest respect, which was a very valuable life lesson.” Janie’s loving and large family includes five children – four sons and one daughter – and eight grandchildren, all of whom are very close to one another. “It’s uniquely wonderful – I’m very blessed.”

Janie calls the Cummings Centre a “gem of an institution.” Now that her eldest is turning 50, she imagines how wonderful it would be to have three generations participating together at the Cummings Centre. “I believe wholeheartedly in the Centre, which offers so much to the community. It’s an absolute pleasure to contribute however I can.”

“BUILD A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR OUR FUTURE”

I want our members to know that we are listening. Through the continued efforts of our dedicated Governors committee, we will continue to respond to the growing needs of our community by providing new programs and services and improved facilities.

– Philip Abbey, CJCS Foundation President, 2017-19

“INVEST IN OUR FUTURE”

I am continually amazed at the depth and breadth of the exceptional programs and services available at the Cummings Centre.  As Chair of the Foundation’s Golda Meir Governors Committee, I am privileged to help raise funds ensuring that the Cummings Centre continues to fulfil its mission investing in the future for an increasingly important segment of our unique and precious community.

– Sandy Martz, Co-Chair, Golda Meir Governors Committee

“SHOW YOUR PRIDE”

Having been involved in fundraising for several years, I am proud of our community and how it treats its elderly citizens with respect and dignity.  I am presently studying Hebrew preparing for a volunteer trip to Israel and have taken a variety of courses. Cummings truly strives to meet the varied needs of the community.
