Cummings Foundation names new President!

At last month’s annual meeting the Cummings Jewish Centre for Seniors (CJCS) Foundation announced that Allan Chandler will succeed Philip Abbey as Foundation President. Allan will be assisted by Vice-President Roslyn Wiener and a vibrant Board of Directors.

Allan brings considerable volunteer experience to the Foundation, having served as Vice-President and Treasurer of the Foundation the previous term.

While recently perusing the CJCS Foundation Sports Celebrity Breakfast program book, Allan came across some startling statistics relating to the challenges of caring for vulnerable seniors. Among his discoveries: 21% of Jewish seniors in Montreal live below the poverty line, 1 in 4 seniors lives with a mental illness and the number of seniors in crisis is increasing at an alarming rate. While many vital services are provided  to seniors by the Cummings Centre, Allan understands that many of the demands for services cannot be met due to lack of funding.

“Our mission at the Foundation is to raise the funds necessary to bridge that gap,” he said. “To that end, we have made significant additions to our Board of Directors and Governors Committee. This team of dedicated volunteers, working with our superb management team, will take up the challenge of ensuring that our programs and services are available to all seniors wishing them.”
