Volunteers Make Waves. Together, we create ripples of change. The volunteer corps of over 650 strong work side by side with the professional team at Cummings sharing their time, expertise and commitment in helping others thrive at the Centre. From serving on Social Action committees educating and advocating for seniors, to hands-on help in the Adapted Gym, delivering Meals on Wheels, lecturing at Cummings University and so much more, our volunteers are so willing to give and share their own life and work experience with our members, “ They truly have the power to make a difference,” says Lynn Gordon, Director Volunteer Services, “ Seniors helping seniors with many still working, full or part-time, giving whatever time they can whether daily, weekly, monthly or virtually-finding a place to volunteer that is relevant for them and our senior’s community.”
Volunteers are unanimous in expressing that magic happens when volunteering at Cummings. Manning the Welcome and Information Desk, Maureen Rabinovitch finds her role at the Centre uplifting, “I love my volunteering at Cummings and try to bring out the best in people welcoming them, showing them around and helping in any way I can.” Howard Pollack was looking for something for himself when he began in the Woodshop,” I soon realized that I wanted to fulfill other’s needs and I am so happy to give back some of the magic that seems to happen everyday at Cummings.” Former teacher, Anne Stein, volunteers in the Centre’s Intergenerational Program working one-on-one with students at area high schools sharing her time and experience. Rochelle Lerner enjoys her committee work as a Vice-President at Cummings, but it is her delivery of Meals-on-Wheels that she emphatically says feeds her soul,” I get to be in direct touch with the people I serve.” Lucienne Azoulay feels the magic in her role as volunteer, “I give everything I have- but the true magic is knowing that those I help give me back so much more.”
Our volunteers are our best ambassadors having had meaningful experiences where they can learn and grow encouraging friends and family to give of their time. Join us to explore how volunteering can give you purpose and meaning while impacting the lives of seniors.
