Fine Arts & Crafts

With emphasis on creativity, self-expression and learning, the School of the Arts provides dozens of opportunities for adults 50 years of age and older to discover hidden talents, hone an existing skill, learn something new or step out of their comfort zone. Our fully equipped Fine Art and Craft Studio, bursting with natural light, provides a relaxed, inspiring and welcoming atmosphere. Small class sizes, programs for beginners to advanced, and a focus on peer discussion make the Cummings Centre an encouraging place to learn in-person and online.

Woodshop

Cummings Woodshop is known in the community for its state-of-the-art woodworking studio with top-of-the-line machinery, tools and safety equipment. Cummings Woodshop and its talented artisan teachers provide an opportunity for woodworking enthusiasts to learn and create unique, one-of-a-kind hand-made crafts. Woodworking classes such as ‘Build a Wooden Bowl or Cutting Board,’ run by knowledgeable instructors, help students learn crafting skills. Dozens of volunteer artisans create hundreds of woodcrafts sold in our Cummings Centre’s La Boutique, onsite and online. Proceeds from the sale of these items help fund Cummings Centre programs and services.

Performing Arts

To support participants in pursuing their passions and uncovering hidden talents, we offer a myriad of innovative performing arts programs to help individuals explore the joy of music and theatre. From beginners to more advanced, you can learn in a welcoming and encouraging environment with specialists trained in their respective craft. Choral singing, ukulele, piano lessons, tap dancing, theatre and more are just a few of our programs.
