Shtetls: A Unique Jewish Phenomenon

Our guide, Evgenia, has collated a colourful presentation of wonderful photos, maps and charts, depicting life in the shtetls of Eastern Europe from the 16th Century until the Holocaust.

With her vast knowledge and enthusiasm, she details the accounts of Jews living in villages such as Jamosc, Tulchin, and Lutsk to name a few. She will describe the hierarchy of power, synagogues and their architecture, livelihoods and family life in towns where, unusually, Jews were some of the original inhabitants.

Join us for this fascinating look at Jewish roots in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Pale of Settlement.
