“The Café Europa Holocaust Survivors Group provides much needed socialization and a safe place to talk about anything and not be afraid. As the only Survivor of my family of 6; sharing my feelings and getting help from others who have also lost families and suffered greatly is a tremendous support. I feel safe. I belong.”

In Recognition of a Holocaust Survivors’ Birthday

“The Café Europa- Holocaust Survivor group which meets once a week is like another family; members feel extremely close to one another and feel comfortable to talk about anything without being judged, It’s sort of a therapy. We share past and celebrate the present. It’s my home away from home.”

– Joseph Brody, PHD

In Recognition of a Holocaust Survivors’ Birthday

‘Perfume always made me feel beautiful and lifted my spirits’, said Nannette . ‘I’ve dreamt of buying my favourite perfume for a long time but it was too expensive, too indulgent. Now with this beautiful gift from the Cummings Centre, I can’. Nannette explained that her children often forgot about her birthday. When she opened the beautiful hand written card, in three languages no less, she was so touched, it brought tears to her eyes. ‘Cummings Centre remembered!’ She left the Centre with a real spring in her step. Thanks to the Federation CJA 100 Survivor Fund, we are able to recognize Holocaust Survivors’ birthdays with a prepaid visa card so they can treat themselves to a special gift.
