Find great personal satisfaction

“Social isolation and loneliness are very serious problems for the elderly population,” says Marc Haligua. Marc, in his sixties, has been volunteering at the Cummings Centre for over two years and has seen first hand the difference the programs and services offered at the Cummings Centre make each day in breaking social isolation and caring for our aging population. ”We need to encourage more and more people to come to the Centre so they are not alone.”

Jewish holiday celebrations

Marc is getting the word out by inviting his friends and acquaintances to join him at the many Jewish holiday celebrations that take place at the Centre, such as our upcoming Tu B’Shvat celebration. “I encourage everyone to come and enjoy our holiday parties, listen to a stimulating lecture or try their hand at a new or long-neglected hobby,” says Marc. “There is just so much to choose from at Cummings.”

The power of volunteering

Marc also volunteers with individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. ”My father suffered from Alzheimer’s so being able to help others facing this disease is so close to my heart,” says Marc. ”Just a small gesture on my part helps a person so much, but I feel I get so much more than I give.”
